Bernadette Carroll lived a reckless teen life, sneaking out of the house at night with friends at only 14 years old. But the illicit destination wasn’t one of the usual hang-outs for young delinquents—it was the local recording studio, a spot so hot with the young girls of Linden, New Jersey.

Such was a similar life for the other other girl groups --Vickie & The Van Dykes, The Falconettes, Harriet Rogers-- that graced Tommy Falcone’s basement label Cleopatra Records: sneaking off into the night across Raritan Bay to Manhattan to record during the early morning hours, practicing after school, and spending late nights partying and performing. Dance songs, crush songs, dreaming about driving a Cadillac songs.
